thick and 20 in. wide fire resistant noncombustible fire rated concrete or mortar wall, containing an aggregate of noncombustible cementitious materials such as brick, stone, poured concrete, and masonry. The HC fire wall shall be capable of containing a Class A fire without thermal failure. A fire resistant noncombustible wall shall be defined as a wall in which the only fire-causing ignition source will not burn through the wall, the wall being made of noncombustible cementitious material. The Wisconsin Water Utility Firewall Code does not use the NFPA fire wall standards. It uses general construction code requirements such as fire walls must be fire resistant and noncombustible, and must be constructed of cementitious material. The wall shall be required to be at least 30 in. thick. Exceptions are listed where requirements of the standards cannot be met. The Code makes no specific allowance for fire resistant noncombustible nonwoven asbestos fireproofing to be used on existing firewalls. Commercial Buildings This standard was updated in 2008. Changes since include the addition of a reference for nonwoven asbestos fireproofing to the fire wall requirements, and revisions to various requirements that specify specific data including the composition and performance of the noncombustible material in fire rated fire walls. Industrial Buildings This standard was updated in 2007. Changes since include the addition of a reference for nonwoven asbestos fireproofing to the fire wall requirements, and the addition of a requirement that walls meeting the required construction materials and fire resistance shall be provided with an instruction to indicate if the installation of noncombustible nonwoven asbestos fireproofing is intended or prohibited. The insulation within the wall shall be noncombustible nonwoven asbestos fireproofing. The standard addresses the use of noncombustible nonwoven asbestos fireproofing within specified areas. This standard was amended in 2007 and is the current version. The revision addresses the definition of the term, “fireproofing” and the classification of fire protection barriers, including firewalls. The 2008 amendment updates the standards by including standards for walls of noncombustible materials that do not meet all of the requirements of either the “fire resistance” or “noncombustible” classifications. The 2008 amendment also replaces the hazard classifications for fire protection barriers with the noncombustible wall classes, and updates definitions to include the nonwoven asbestos fire
